I have a small network with less than 10 people on it. I recently got a new router/modem from verizon and cant seem to set it up properly. If I run straight through the modem i can connect with no problem but if i run the router to a switch i cant seem to connect. What settings do i need on my server to enable the users to connect to the internet?

Thanks

Get a crossover cable to go from the modem to the switch.

Should i plug the crossover into an uplink or regular spot on the switch.

Are there any settings i need to set up on the server? I was reading about setting the default gateway to the ip of the router. Also, the default ip of the router is 192.168.1.1 and the sever is 192.168.0.1, will this work or should the server be 192.168.1.2?

thanks

That is based on the subnet mask, but generally you should set the IP to 192.168.1.x. x being any number between 2 and 254. The router is probably giving out DHCP addresses in that range. You may need to verify that so that you don't get any IP conflicts.

If you're using a regular network cable, plug it from the "uplink" port on the switch to the router.
