Hi Forummates,

I am a newbie of Veritas System. I am going to use Veritas Volume Replicator to replicate data from an EMC Shared Disk Array in EMC CX 300 to another EMC Shared Disk Array in another site. This operation will run on Veritas Volume Manager.

Would you mind to tell me WHAT I should carefully consider, HOW I can configure and WHETHER there is any sample operation? I found that the offical User Guide is not enough. Please help.

Thanks,
-stan

Are you wanting to replicate the array or a Volume Group?

Things to consider:

1. Read the Release Notes for VVR.
2. You will need to DCO Logs on the Volumes that will be replicated.
3. Do the SRL Log math before attempting to replicate. This is given in the Admin Guide. This will ensure you create the SRL log with the proper size.
4. When creating the SRL Log, create this on a RAID1 Raid Group and it must be on a seperate Raid Group. (Performance).

Hi comtec17,

The whole story is like this:
[EMC A]---[VVR 1]----(Internet)----[VVR 2]---[EMC B](DR site)

All platforms run on Windows 2003 Server. Both on VVR 1 our own application will run and "Veritas Storage Foundation 4.1 For Windows, Veritas Volume Replicator Option" will be installed because it offers VVR. VVR 2 is its clone and the same set of applications will be installed manually.

Our own backend runs on SQL Server 2k and its data files may store in EMC A. Our original idea is to use VVR to duplicate data in EMC A and some in VVR 1 to EMC B and VVR 2 respectively.

- EMC A and B will run in CX 300. You mean it must be RAID 1? or Should we create a RAID 1 in VVR 1 so that it can mirror Storage Replicator Log (SRL)?

- Since I will use "Veritas Storage Foundation 4.1 For Windows, Veritas Volume Replicator Option", should I read the release note of "Veritas Storage Foundation 4.1 For Windows, Veritas Volume Replicator Option" instead of VVR itself?

- How can I define "Data Change Object" DCO?

- I am reading 268286.pdf which is "Veritas Storage Foundation 4.1 For Windows, Veritas Volume Replicator Option, Administrator's Guide, Windows 2000, Windows 2003". I did not find any calculation about SRL, where can I find it?

- Is there any practical example so that I can follow or reference?

Many thanks,
-stan
