Veritas Backup Error

Please provide a work around to the following error.

Storage device "QUANTUM 0" reported an error on a request to write data to media.

Error reported:
Data error (cyclic redundancy check)

firstly I would clean the tape drive.

If it doesn't leak oil it must be empty!!
