Has anyone used Veritas Advanced Client to do backup to disk? Do you just need it on your master server or do you need a license for every server you plan on backing up to disk? Is this a feature that is included with Media Server license or a separate license?

You do not need the Advanced client to backup to disk. This is standard with NBU

Thanks for the reply. What about writing to the disks in my SAN? Where is the option to write to disk?

Disk is disk whether it is SAN attached or Direct attached. Either way, the host will see it as SCSI storage.

What version of NetBackup are you using?

You create the backup to disk option when you create a Storage Unit. There will be 2 options:

Disk - Backup storage but will not expire images from disk. This can be very bad if you run out of disk space.

Disk Staging - Enables you to backup to disk first and then duplicate it to tape. NBU will expire the images on disk as long as it has been duplicated. If you run out of space, NBU will delete the oldest and largest image first as long as it has been duplicated first.

I am using Netbackup 5.1 MP2 in a Windows Environment. I will check this out tomorrow and try to get it setup. Thanks for the info.
