I have just installed a replacement Sony internal scsi tape drive. Replaced 36g AIT with 80g AIT-2. I can see the drive in Bup Exec, but cannot get to a tape. All inventory, erase, rename and label options fail. I have also noticed when I try to config the drive I do not get an option for AIT-2 or TAIT. When I go to the configuration it shows as ***. It will not allow me to even change the media type to AIT. In the properties area of the drive it always returns to *** for media type and the ability to read and write to no. Any thoughts on what I need to do to be able to see this media?

Right click on the drive in backup exec in the devices tab and delete the drive from backup exec.

Stop the backup exec services

Download and install the latest veritas drivers and install Backup Exec 9.1 SP4

reboot

Thanks for the information. I will give it a whirl and then re-boot tonight when I can take it off line. I'll let you know my result.

Hi Steveot: I have done all of above to no avail. I still get the device configuration wizard not knowing what type of drive my Sony 80g drive is (it sees it however). Then when I go to choose a type, I select AIT as that is the closest since AIT-2 is not an option...but again this choice will not save.
