This is what I have
Veritas 10 installed locally on an Windows 2003 server with Service pack 1 and Exchange 2003 on that server as well.

I back up the information store and also do a exchange brick layer of all the boxes.
The backup works fine and I have no issues.

If a mailbox is deleted and I need to do a restore I have problems.
I choose the mailbox in question and the option to recreate the mailbox and username and the restore process starts, it hangs for about 30 mins and then comes back with access denied error

Job ended: Thursday, May 05, 2005 at 2:21:13 PM
Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe0008488 - Access is denied.
Final error category: Security Errors

The user account I am using to restore has full Exchange admin rights to the exchange server, it has send and receive rights to the mailboxes and I even through the account in the enterprise admins, domain admins, etc but I just cant get this working.

Any ideas

Try installing HOTFIX 16
Take a look at your resource credentials in the backup job that backs up the mailboxes. make sure you use the same account to restore it

You could also manully recreate the user account, then restore the mailbox from backup. I agree with SteveOT, make sure the account used to perform the backup is also used for the restore.

Thanks guys I actually figured out my problem. We had just installed veritas and we were testing individually mailbox restores. Problem was the exchange server was keeping the mailboxes on file for 30 days since that is what was stored in the settings. So when we tried to restore over a recently deleted box it would fail because the box in reality still existing. To perform the test we ran the mailbox clean up wizard and then purged the mailbox, once the box was officially removed from the exchange server and not just a shadow it worked great.

Thanks for the thoughts though much appreciated
