Good Day All,

My problem today is, I have a vector that has 8 options, plus, it gives the person, the option of dialing an extension, by hitting the # sign.

The problem is callers are not listening to the message and just start dialing an extension. When they enter a string of digits, and one of the digits matches a menu option it routes to that option.

Do anyone know of a way to prevent this from happening.

Thanks.

I would make a second level menu. In other words give them a simple front end message saying, if you know the local you need, press 1 now or press 2 for other choices.

Unfortunately, because of dial-ahead digits there is no way to stop someone when they dial more than 1 digit. What I would recommend is to force callers to listen to an introductory announcement and then collect digits in a secondary announcement.

Example:
Anncmt. 1001
Thank you for calling the ABC Company, if you know your party's extension, please press # during the following menu.

Anncmt. 1002
If you know your party's ext. press #.
For Dept A, press 1.
For Dept B, press 2.

Then make the vector begin like this:
01 wait 0 seconds hearing silence
02 announcement 1001
03 collect 1 digit after announcement 1002
04 route to number xxxx if digits = 1
...etc

This is a problem that many people have and, unforuntately, there is no easy way to get around it.
