I've got several different scenarios, and have been looking around but people are a little too general on their websites on telling me how to do these things. So I came to the experts for help.
Does anyone know how to transfer things from:
1. VCR to Personal computer
2. VCR (or straight from Video Camcorder) to laptop (most important)
3. TV to Personal computer (I looked at wintv and heard it wasn't so great, and was wondering if anyone had any other options)
If anyone knows any really good video editting software that would be nice to know too. Or any really good video recording ones that will work with a PCI card. I'm new to this whole thing, so I thank you all for your help.

Happieness is like peeing your pants.
Everyone can see it, but only you can feel the warmth.

1) You just need to make sure your PC video card has a video input. With an input, you can capture video from any analog source (VCR, Camcorder, TV, etc). Unless you need professional real-time effects, go with an ATI All-in-wonder card. Their capture quality usually outmatches Nvidia's. The card should come with some basic software to record the input stream. You can also use free apps like Virtual Dub. You'll want Pinnacle Studio or Adobe Premiere if you plan on doing any serious editing.

2) This one depends on your video source. If you have a digital camcorder that has a firewire or USB port, then all you need is the matching port on the PC. This kind of transfer is a lot quicker than straight analog which has to play in real-time. Unfortunately, most laptops don't have video analog inputs, so if you want to capture video to your laptop, you'll want to make sure the video device is digital. They do make USB add-on devices that have analog inputs, but I've heard that their capture quality is hardly worth it.

3) Having a TV Tuner input on your video card is really a matter of preference. If you want to turn your computer into a TIVO-like system, then this may be the option for you. I haven't done a lot of research in this area, but may have some past articles that have reviewed various tuners. Unless you care about scheduling recording times, it's not necessary to have a tuner card.
