Hi guys

I am experienced in Crystal Reports, SQL Server 2005 and bits and pieces of HTML, Javascript, ASP.

I want to learn Visual Basic to improve my job prospects - lots of jobs local to me ask for VB6 or VB.Net - but I don't know where to start - VB6, VBA, VB.Net, VBScript..so confusing!

I know everything is becoming more .NET driven these days and Microsoft is soon finishing it's VB6 support. Would I be better off just diving straight in with .NET (where I could also develop ASP.Net skills?) or do you think I should start with VB6, to get the basics and then move onto .NET? And where would VBA and VBScript fit in with either of these plans?

Appreciate any advice, cheers guys.

VB.Net and VB6 are completely different beasts. I wouldn't bother getting into VB6 at all, just pick up a good VB.Net book (Avoid Dietel, those books were horrid) and start there. Once you get the basics of VB.Net and Object Oriented programming down, ASP.Net isn't that big of a transition.

I think VBA and VBScript would come pretty easily too after learning VB.net. The transition seems to be much more difficult going the other way (from older versions to VB.net)

Have Fun :)

oh, Starfest.

Concentrate on OO-programming, it's probably the most difficult principle to grasp, at least that's what I noticed in school.

Here is a good place to start

and google will give you plenty more
