Is it possible to develop a vb front end and a access database as a backend and then distribute the application to users who do not have ms access?

I do not have the developer edition of access but have vb.

Any thoughts on vb project or access database are welcome

cheers

Yes, it is possible. You don't actually distribute Access to your customers. You distribute the MS/Jet engine. When you use the Package and Deployment wizard or Microsoft Installer it will include the appropriate JET DLL's in the package.

So basically, the vb front end with the appropriate Dll's could read/update a access database without the ms access.exe being installed on a users PC?

I have also looked at other threads that say vb is not that good / difficult at doing continuous forms - have you ever had any experience with this?

Cheers

No. The user does not have to have Access installed but, if he or she doesn't, then you better incorporate all the things needed to do the "care-and-feeding" part of Access in the application (e.g. Compacting, Repairing, User Authorization, Security, etc.)

"Good", "Bad", "Indifferent", "So-So", etc. have meaning only in the context of the application you are trying to create.

Continuous forms? ... no ... but that's bad only if you need them.

"Difficult to Use ...?" Sure there are easier languages but generally the easier it is, the more limited it is. After all, if it was really easy, we wouldn't need programmers, you would just press your forehead against the monitor and think "Do the right thing!"
