Well I want to distribute my visual basic application, an application that's supports the main project of my company (National Insurance System developed in Oracle).
This small application reads data from a file and validates it.
The problem is that it has to be only one diskette beacause it will distributed all over the country(I ve tried to avoid the diskette but the general project manager said 'diskette').
Some Dlls like msvbvm60.dll , OLEAUT32.DLL etc. takes to much space. I m using package & Deployment wizard and my whole compressed package exceeds about 300KB from 1.44M(Well to be honest im using a activeX grid that takes 400KB uncompressed.)
Any possible solution? Thanks in advance

Have you considered making it a download off a website. You can protect it with passwords. Thanks and Good Luck!

Also, one diskette, one CD what is the difference? Other than money. Thanks and Good Luck!

Hi:

I agree with Zemp, use a CD. Companies such as Dell are now making floppies an option in their computer systems. Practically everyone would have a CD-ROM drive or compatible peripheral (eg DVD drive.)

The demise of the floppy, I suspect, is near.

The demise of the general project manager may be nearer. MS do an executable that contains the vb6 runtime. It's a bit under a megabyte I think, may be better compressed if less convenient than the PDW method. Lucky you aren't using vb.net, the runtime is 17Mb.

All you can do is give the general project manager the facts about the size of the app and the distribution options that are available. (2 diskettes, 1 CD, download, etc.). Then it will be up to him. Thanks and Good Luck!
