I have been battling getting a config up and running, I have managed to bully my way through most of it (NDMP, SSO options). However, I keep getting hung up on the basics. Simple stuff, like if I have 20 tapes in the scratch pool, why does my full monthly backup fail saying their are no media available (Since I haven't done a monthly, there are no media in the pool assigned to the monthly). Isn't the scratch pool supposed to be dynamically assigned to the policy pools if there are no media in them.
i.e. My differential pool started with 0 and based on retention, has had 8 tapes assigned.
My weekly pool started with 0 and based on retention, has had 4 tapes assigned.
Yet now, my monthly full (which is just a copy of the one of the weeklies with different retention policies) just bombs out on waiting to allocate media.
Can someone suggest some reading info on the media management portion of netbackup and its administration that might help? The above scenario makes no sense to me, for testing, I recently just change -> moved a handful of tapes from the scratch to the monthly pool and it started working. (There were no errors manually moving tapes from one pool to the other).
