Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has setup a volume pool for the NBDB_Duplicate catalog backup tapes created by vault?

I am tired of jumping thru hoops to reuse these tapes for regular backups.

I thought about just sending those catalog backup tapes back to the NBDB_Duplicate pool and seeing if vault would pick them back up and use them.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Any successes?

Thanks in advance!

I keep ten tapes in the NBDB_Duplicate pool for vaulting.
I selected a volume series 200030 thru 200039 so that I can easily ID the catalog tape. The catalog tapes cycle thru the locations of offsite/in transit/in the library. I never reuse them as data tapes.

There are times when I have to do a vmquery -deassignbyid in order to free a tape up for reuse but normally they naturally expire before I place them in the library.

The tapes are selected in volser order. For instance the tape 200030 is the most frequently used and had been used over a hundred times. Menawhile tape 200039 is rarely used because the nine tapes with a lower volser number are always selected if they are available.

Just because the VERITAS documentation states a certain thing does not make it a fact and thats the truth
