Hello all:

Here's my situation: I'm running NBU 5.0, MP4 and I'm using inline copy to create offsite archive tapes with infinite retentions for a job that regularly has 3 month retention.

I have two volume pools: a 3mth pool (3 month retention) and an offsite pool (infinite rentention).

The policy runs a daily incr. and a weekly full. On the day the full is run, I use multiple copies to create an offsite copy that lands on an offsite pool tape in addition to the regular 3mth pool tape.

Here's the problem: both tapes have images with both retentions. i.e., the tape in the 3mth pool has images that expire at the 3mth mark as well as images that are infinitely retained for the same job. The same situation is true for the tape in the offsite pool.

What am I doing wrong and how might I be able to correct this so that only 3mth images end up on the 3mth tape and only infinite images end up on the offsite tape?

Please let me know if any further information is needed,

Thanks,

Dan

allow multiple retentions per media" is *NOT* checked in the host properties for the server in question.

is there another place check that might be overriding this setting? or something else?

When you configure your ITC you need to specify the pool each copy writes to. Copy one should point to your 3mnth onsite, copy 2 to the infinite(weekly full schedule). Your inc schedule should not have ITC enabled and should only point to your 3mnth pool.

Thanks, GreyWanderer...I checked just to make sure and the policies in question are configured that way already.

Perhaps I'm reading the report wrong? I'm running the "Images on Media" report and selecting a specific media label. While checking again just now, I noticed that the admin console window in my terminal had a horizontal scroller...oops. I scrolled to the right and found another column in the report: "Media ID"

The Media ID lists tapes that are not in the infinite ret. offsite pool and those returns are the ones listed w/ 3mth retention. (and those tapes are indeed in the 3mth pool)

Could somebody explain to me why a report run for a specific piece of media returns results that also details iamges on other pieces of media? Or am I maybe misunderstanding the purpose of this report? (that's a possibility ;) )
