VAM difficulties with TN2501

I've got CM4 and I'm trying to administer it with VAM 3.1.12

I'm trying to manage some announcements and am getting the following errors:

There was an error retrieving announcements for VAL board S8720_Ideal:01A11 .1 00000000 5bc5 "announcements" is an invalid entry; please press HELP
The filesystem for S8720_Ideal:01A11 has been enabled with Security n
: ValFtpClient constructor: A ping to IP addx '' failed. Ftp client reported 'Connection refused: connect'.
Connection to S8720_Ideal retrieved from pool.
The filesystem for S8720_Ideal:01A11 has been disabled.
Connection to S8720_Ideal released to pool.

I've searched the posts tried just about everything I can, but can't get this to work. I was able to move a file from my PC to my VAL via FTP, but must have mucked up something because even though I see the file under "list dir bo 1a11" in CM CLI, the announcement won't play when I dial ext 4107.

Further, this TN2501 has some announcements on it from an earlier CM deployment that have nothing to do with today's environment. What's the easiest way to get rid of them? "erase ann 1A11"? Just whack 'em all and start over?

There are only about five that I'm using today, I've got them documented and they're in my voice, so it'll be easy to re-record the ones I want to keep.

I think I've got the current service packs on 3.1.2U.1.1

I haven't tried upgrading to 4 or 5 yet.

Goin' bald, fast!

I've got two systems I'm trying this on and neither one is working.

S8300 CM3.1.5
S8720 CM4.1

On the CM 4, I can get some of the VAL board info, but it doesn't seem to pick up the IP address of the VAL. I can ping the VAL and I can ftp files to the VAL. Backups don't work through VAM, can't get properties through VAM.

On the S8300, I can get the properties, but backups don't copy back to my PC.

If I can get that figured out, I'll be on my way to getting my bigger issues resolved.

Here's my big problem though. I'm about to be given a couple of dozen custom, foreign language prompts that need to be imported to the S8300 in a crunch. I can ftp the announcements to the VVAL, but not sure how to convert them/make them available as delays/prompts. Do I create the exact file names and matching extensions first on the VVAL, then ftp the announcements?

Well, that tears it, I'm shavin' the rest of my head and givin' up on VAM! Goin' with the old fashioned method of manual ftp. Works pretty slick.

Create the Announcement thru ASA with the ext. Make sure name matches EXACTLY and is case sensitive.
FTP the .wav files to the /annc directory
Wait a few minutes to load
Voila!

Where would we be without ya Brett?!

Phil, if you call me, I will help you fix the other issues with your VAM
