validating radio buttons and drop down fields

I have a "new records" web page with two drop down menu fields, eight(4 choice) radio button fields and one text area field the user fills out. I want the drop down menu fields and radio button fields to be required (not empty)..
Can anyone help me with javascripting that will validate the fields before the action button on the form tells the backend DB to create a new record.

Sorry...but be warned, I am a cut and paste Java Script user. I am a Java script newbie... I will need some hand holding as I am a true novice in that area. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.
