I have a nortel system with paging currently setup so the user presses a two digit code on their phone to page certain zones, 89,88,87,86. I'm having trouble finding the corelation to these two digit numbers to the paging system? I would apprecaite any help, we are upgrading to a shortel phone system but I need to understand how this works to set it up on the new system. I can't dial any of the ACOD numbers from a phone, we can only page with the two digit codes. We do have a DN 5399 called page that lets will let me page after it rings like 5 times? Any help would be appreciated.

Your access code to the route is 8 followed by the zone # in the valcom unit. These zones are preset in the valcom unit.

The Targ on the route is a 1 so any phone with a tgar of 1 wont be able to access it by dialing 8. Any other phone can.

That makes sense. So the paging dn and the other paging routes would not really mean anything to me? This system has been touched by several people so who knows what they did before.

I'm not sure what the analog phone is for, the one you say is the paging dn, probably an attempt by someone to make the paging work that didn't know what they were doing. Basically you will need a loop start analog trunk port from the new Shoretel system that will allow DTMF to pass to the valcom.

It could be that 5399 number is a night dn to sound a tone over the paging for a night bell arrangement but that's just a guess. You could dial that number and see if you hear a tone over the paging.

This is our nightbell that does play a tone over the speakers. How it does that i'm not sure though. Haven't got that far but if you see it and want to let me know, that would be great. I do apprecaite your help with everything. I usually only do changes and moves:

You would have to trace the cross connect from this TN and see if it goes to the Valcom unit. It also appears that if the night bell goes unanswered it forwards to an external number.

FTR FDN 68007844519

You are the man!!!! It must never forward though (which is good because it's a bad number). I know the nightbell comes from a menu and if no one answers it it goes back to the menu. I can't wait to get this shortel system in. It will be much easier for people like me who don't know this stuff.
