Fellow techs,

I have an Opt 81C attached to a Valcom V-2003A Three zone page control unit. I have a route defined as a page route (31) and asssociated trunk crossed connected to the pager's unit tip/ring per manual. When dialing the pager route access code with an analog phone, I get tone from the paging unit, I am able to break that tone by pressing a key on the analog phone associated with the zone I want, and away I go, no problem, works like a charm. However, when I use a digital set, M2616 or 3904, I receive the tone from the paging unit but I am not able to break that tone the way the analog sets does. I can press any digit on the digital phone key pad but the tone continues. I enable EES and DTMF under FTR_DATA on my CDB but that made no difference. Below is the route and trunk.

Johnpoole,

Thanks for responding. I tried that. When I dial the access code of 5665 the Valcom responds with its version of "dial tone" which is nothing more than a continuous high pitched tone that lasts about 60 seconds. During that time, analog phones can "break" that tone via its key pad and enter whatever zone is needed. The problem is that digital sets cannot "break" that tone, no matter how or which digits are pressed on the digital sets keypad, the tone stays on ontil it times out, and even then, it does not work. It is as if digital sets are completeley ignored but analog sets work ok.

I looked into Valcom's web page and could find nothing that comes near this issue. I e-mailed them with the problem but their response was to call them because troubleshooting this with them would be too lenghtly. The problem is, I am working in Iraq for the next 6 to 12 months and the time zone difference, not to mention the quality of the phone call to the US, would make a tech call practically impossible.

I am hoping that someone out there might have encountered this and offer a work around. If worse comes to worse, I'll just install an analog phone next to the digital one and call it a day, but that would not be very professional.

A funny thing though, when I programmed the route as a COT just to test, the digital and analog sets where able to break the tone ... but no audio could be transmitted. Go figure. I never had this happen before and welcome further input. You guys out there are the best.

CHANGE THE TRUNK TYPE TO WAT

YOU WILL NEED TO BUILD ANOTHER RDB FOR WAT

pag cot or wat should all work, i use wat so i can add timed force disconect.. i guess you've put a but set on the analog port to see if the digital is sending anything...

PerryPJ/John, the WATS is the way to go.

No wonder this is the greatest community on the Internet, you guys are awsome. I knew I could count on my fellow techs whereever you might be to come through.

Before I made the change to a WATS, I traced the digital set and sure enough, it was sending digits ... they simply were not recognized by the Valcom but with the WATS route and trunk, it works the way it is supposed to, both analog and digital.

Because there was a short pause after dialing the access code for the digits to be sent, I changed the MANO from no to yes on the RDB to eliminate the pause. Now there are no delays, the response is excellent and the audio as good as the speaker can talk.

For those of you out there with similar or other issues, listen to these guys, they make this site happen. Without them, there would be no Tek-Tips.com.

IF YOU SET THE RDB FOR PAG, IT IS OK FOR ONE ZONE PAGE. IF YOU WANT TO ZONE PAGE YOU NEED TO SET THE RDB TO WAT, THIS WILL ALLOW THE ZONE DIGITS TO PASS TO THE VALCOM
