My Father-in-Law is running QuarkXPress v.4.11r0 under Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 (5.00.2195) but it fails to launch – the ‘splash screen’ disappears after scanning fonts. It DID work fine until a couple of months ago (=not used that often). I had his computer with me for a few hours today and tried all of the usual ‘fixes’; deleting the ‘Xpress Preferences’ file; disabling ‘Xtensions’; even uninstalling and reinstalling it from the original v.3.3 – all to no avail. [Incidentally v.3.3 launches fine.] There have been NO hardware changes to his set-up since it stopped working but there have been some software changes – the addition of Norton SystemWorks seems the most likely candidate for the source of the problem. [From memory other software changes have been limited to communication/fax software.]

I’ve searched the web extensively for a solution and there is a seemingly relevant reference to “QuarkXPress fails to launch when Norton System 2001 loads on same system.” in the Quark Knowledge Base however, it relays to a URL on the Symantec site which has since been deleted []. Does anyone know what this document said? Or, do any of you have any other suggestions as to the cause of this problem???

Thanks!

Nick
