We have HP-UX 10.x and want to extend /usr & /var file systems. I thought commenting fstab for those two file systems would not mount the them when systems boot and I would be able to extend those. But, commenting those file systems is not a good idea as our server never came back and we end up hardbooting and interuptting boot sequence and restoring old fstab.

Any help/comments. Thanks.

The eastest and fastest way to fix problem with LVM is to buy online JFS for hp-ux 10.x. This additional software package will allow you to increas and decrease volumes with out rebooting.

Hi,

You can either extend by booting to single user or install ignite, and when you do a recovery you can specify new sizes for the filesystems.

I've given a how-to regarding this question in detail before on this site.
