I'm missing something here. :)

After downloading all the Windows 98 updates, is there a "method to the madness" to installing the updates.

Searching Microsoft's site and here, I can't find a logical explaination on how to install the updates.

Can someone give me the answer that makes me go "doh".

Thanks

They should be saved as programs. What happens when you run one of them? Do you know where you saved them too?

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

They're saved as programs in a folder I named updates. Then they were saved in subfolders that were name automatically as per Microsofts Knowledgebase article number 323166.
For instance:
C:\Updates\WU\Software\en\com_microsoft.internetexplorer6x\x86Win98\com_microsoft.Q867801_IE6_SP1

I can't find any method for then installing the updates. Double-clicking on the executable in the path I listed above tells me I need IE6 SP1 installed to run that update. I presumed it WAS the IE6 update.

I don't want to just randomly start running the programs. I've been searching the MS Knowledgebase and all I can find is how to download the updates; I haven't found anything yet on how to install them offline.

That is my problem at present. I want to install all of the updates offline, but can't find articles on how to do it.

Microsoft used to offer a free microsoft cd with security updates, but no longer I think.

Otherwise you need to install the updates one by one.

You ran an update that requires IE6, SP1. Its a separate download.

Microsoft didn't design their updates to be archived for a quick logical patching of a machine.

I have a copy if you want to send me a small bubble envelope with proper postage, up to you.
