Using Win98 "Batch.exe" & "Infinst.exe" with WinME...?

Does anyone know how to trick the Windows 98 INF installer utility (INFINST.EXE) so it works with Windows ME...?

I have been able to make BATCH98.EXE work ok, but INFINST has me stuck:

I've got it to work to a point, but I had to temporarily rename the W9XSETUP.BIN file to W98SETUP.BIN. But then when I press the "Add INF" button, it doesn't seem to do anything, and the wrong files get copied to the \WININF folder.

I have used the FILEMON.EXE utility from to monitor the files as they are accessed, and that is how I found to rename the W9XSETUP.BIN file, but too much file activity goes on after that for me to tell what's going on.
