can I upgrade a win 95 computer with the windows 98 SE CD, it says that i need the the upgrade cd, how can i get around needing the upgrade cd, please help, can i use the cd that i have

No, it won't upgrade. You could do an overlay install (putting SE into the same directories where things are common but you will need to install the programs to get the registry tie-ins.

Hi

Been a while but i think you can rename win.com to win.old and then install 98se overtop of 95 or 98 first ed.

Trevor,
That does not allow you to upgrade Windows using the "full version" CD.

The win.old trick is for OEM CD installs. An OEM CD would look for win.com, and if found it would not let the install continue. So the workaround was to rename it to win.old for setup to continue.

I would recommend that you find another drive to install 98SE onto, making that one your first primary drive, and making your 95 drive a secondary drive. You get a clean install of 98SE and in the process offers you the option of migrating your 95 apps and settings to the new 98SE drive.
I have found that installing Windows over an existing Win system dosen't work too good, as I experinced with upgrading Win98 to Win 98SE upgrade CD. This worked for me.I also found out that it is easier and faster to install Win9x fron another HD, with WinME you end up with a copy of the install Cd you Windows dir as options\install, you never have to use the Wincd again!.
