Hi,

My company are thinking about the idea of using sharepoint to replace our project LAN so all of our documnetation is stored on sharepoint instead of Project Shrared Drives.

I was just wondering about the potential benifits and drwabacks of this?

From what I can see you cant search documents like you can in explorer if documentation was held on Sharepoint, so I guess thats one disadvanatage.

Thanks

M

Sharepoint uses SQL Server's full text search, and its own search and index function, so it's not a disadvantage. As a matter of fact, you can fine tune indexing much more effectively, and with better results than a generic LAN search.*

We use SPS for all of our project and application documentation, in addition to supporting docs for orders and packaging. Works very well here.

*Provided you didn't use indexing on the LAN.
