Using my Dell Laptop to Make Phone Calls Win2KPro

I am trying to use my Dell Laptatude computer to make telephone calls. I have a headset plugged into the two ports required. I can dial out, and hear the call being completed, but it automatically disconnects after about 10 seconds. The headset that I am using is one that I got with my Dragon Naturally Speaking Software. DO I need to purchase a specific headset for this purpose?
Any help would be appreciated.
