Using DTS to pull data from SQL7 into SQL2000 1

If I have a production database on SQLServer 7 can I use DTS from SQL2000 to pull the data off of a SQLServer 7 database into a SQL2000 database? The reason I want to do this is because we don't plan on upgrading oue ERP system database to SQL2000 for a while but I want to install SQL2000 on another server and move the data from SQLServer 7 into a SQLServer 2000 database. Any guidance on this issue?

Yes, you can. In fact, you can also use DTS to transfer data from SQL 6.5 to another 6.5.

All you have to do is backup the database on ver 7.0 and then restore it on 2000.....SQL 2000 will convert it to a 2000 format upon the restore.

Please understand what I am asking here. I have a production ERP database using SQLServer 7 on one server. I want to create a DTS transform package to take certain data in our production ERP database and move it to a dimensional data warehouse created in a SQL2000 database. I assume that I will be creating the DTS package within SQL2000 where the source database is the SQL7 database and the destination database is a SQL2000 database.

I only want to bring certain data from my SQL7 database, not restore the entire database.
