I have a web app that currently uses CR 8.5 Developer to merely create PDF files upon request from within VBScript/VB, then I redirect the user's browser to the resulting PDF file. I'd like to give the user some control over a copy of the report for sorting, adding/removing fields, etc. I have a call into Crystal, but thought I'd see what users' thoughts are. Do we need CR Enterprise? Do we have to buy a license for each named user? I don't want the user to have to install anything on their system. Thanks for any thoughts!

In 8.5 dev you have the RDC which will allow you to code a report.

With CE 8.5, there's a companion product called RAS (Smart technology) which allows users to modify existing reports from the WEN interface, or create a new one based on an existing data set within another report.

With 9.0 you have a new version of RAS, which is designed to allow for customizing and creating reports.

With Crystal Reports alone, you can cheat the sort and number of/which fields by creating additional sections with varying numbers of fields, and displaying fields based on formulas, which might vary based on some external (parms, code).

The sort can also be altered by basing it on a formula and allowing an external to drive it.
