Using automatic page numbers with blank facing pages.

I am trying to use automatic page numbers on my document that has blank facing pages. I do not want the blank facing pages to be numbered or to affect the page numbers on the content pages. So the page numbers should progress only on the pages with content. When I tried inserting the automatic page numbers only on the content pages, they progress as though the blank pages are also being counted.

How can I use automatic page numbers without counting the blank facing pages? Thanks!

You can't.
The only way around it is to do a section start on the Page after the blank.
And even then, the page number will be wrong, because you can't have an odd number on an even side and an even number on an odd side.

You will have to set it up as single pages and not facing to get away with it.

Is there a way to convert a document with facing pages to one without? The document is rather large, but all of the facing pages are blank, so it would work for me to just make it a single page document by getting rid of the facing pages.

No fast way.
Make a new Master page (as a single, not as a spread)
Select all your pages in the page layout window then apply the new master to them.

Then, in you document layout window drag the pages so they are under each other. (easier to work with)

I'm sorry, but I don't understand what you are suggesting. I have a variety of different master pages within my document. Can you explain your solution in a bit more detail if you have time?

You will have reproduce all of your Master pages and reapply them to the affected page in your document.

IE:

A-Master A
drag down a non dogeared master page so it's now B-Master B

Copy/Paste everything from A-Master A to B-Master B
Then apply the new master page to the affected pages

Continue this process for each master page

You can now drag page 2 and put it under page one etc etc and renumber them, do what ever you want to them.

You can do what you want with facing pages. It is easy. You needn't change to a single page document.

You just put the auto page# info on the master pages. You assign the very first page through contents, foreword, whatever necessary as being roman numerals. Then the first page you want as a number one, just do a section start, and assign regular numerals as desired. From thereon the pages will be numbered 1 through the end.

You can just delete any roman numerals on the front matter as you wish, or use it as some books have it.
