I have become familiar with the assets panel in Dreamweaver 4 where I can use an image from it on a page and then if I go and edit that image in Fireworks it will be updated on all pages that use it. However I also use Fireworks to create fancy effects e.g. drop down menus or rollovers where I export the HTML and images so I can import Fireworks HTML on the page. However I can't get these onto the assets panel, so if I update them, I have to change them across all pages which is a nuisance. I also don't want to use templates, because these won't let me write information to the <HEAD> section which I need when importing Fireworks.

Is there any other way to update these sort of effects automatically, or is the only way just to make sure you get them right the first time?

Thanks,

Stuart

Hello Stuartp!

Try another good DW feature - Library. You may create any library item (even part of HTML code) and later use it on any page. When you update library item it's automaticly updated on all pages where you have it.

Good Luck!

Thanks. This works to a point however if I create drop down menus in Fireworks, create and use as Library item in Dreamweaver, and then go back and change the drop downs, they are not updated back in Dreamweaver. Any other changes are copied back, it is just changed to drop downs that are not. Am I doing something wrong, or is there another technique, or is this just a tradeoff for using drop downs?

Stuartp,

I think that you are doing something wrong. I haven't done it myself but I know it should be done like this - you must do all changes not in FW directly but from Assets panel - select the Template in the Assets and click Edit. When you edit it and then save it must be automaticly updated. I think so!

Good Luck!

This doesn't work either. Choosing to edit in Fireworks only diaplays the image, and all the hostpots are removed so you can't edit the menus in this way. Neither can I find the script that drives the menus in the assets panel to change it that way.

Perhaps we are expected to get drop downs right first time before using them!
