Is it possible under Linux to run a cgi script hosted by Apache that will use the " user account to rsh into another remote Linux machine?

As long as it is running the "apache" user, sure. I usually create a small script cgi to spit out /bin/id to verify that I am running with the expected uid and effective uid.
