i have 2 pcs and wanna burn data from mine to the other pc which has a cd burner installed. now i saw some stuff sayin this wasn't possible but then someone said they had done it with netbuie and adaptec. they gave some vage instructions that didnt' really help me. so if u know what to do please help i realy need to get this done. thanks.

It may be theoretically possible but I would not advise it. Any network is prone to momentary interruptions in the data flow that could mess up the burning process big time. I suggest you copy the data across the network to the PC with the burner and burn from there.

Your best bet is to copy the data over to the PC with the burner, then burn the data off the local computer.

You may have some success with the new burners that employ buffer under run technology.

The problem with network burning and older burners is that it may work some times and then it may make coasters..... Troy Williams B.Eng.

Using a burner over a network is possible and usable. As with the above concerns, they are all valid. I use several burners on my network and they function without a hitch, but I cannot burn at full speed. I use a conservative 4x for my 12x burners when burning over the network. I advise that you cache the files to your local harddrive first and then burn from there. A smoothly functioning network is helpful if you don't want to burn coasters, but that is a whole new discussion. Either kick down you burn speed with burn protect on or cache to disk first.

If you have access to that burner over the network, then hopefully you can create a folder on its local hard drive. Copy the contents you want to burn into that folder. Then launch Adaptec on your system and add files from that folder you just created into the cd layout. This will sidestep the lag time that's involved from transfering data over the network when you're ready to burn.
