I have a 1.8 Ghz True Intel running on a Tyan MotherBoard
It has 2 NIC cards and a Hardware modem in it.
It runs on 512 PC2100 DDR

I have a cable modem on one NIC running DHCP.

I have a hub hooked up to the other.

My question is, what all do I have to do to the Server to set it up as a "Poor Man's Gateway",

Or as us technical people call it, a in-house DHCP server.

In Admin Tools, you will see your DHCP manager. Open it and create a new scope with a range of internal network addresses ex.192.168.100.0 to 192.168.100.254.
This addreses can change in numbers depending on your network (how big it is, how subdivied you want it to be, etc).Your subnet mask in this case could be 255.255.255.0.This numbers can change also for the same reasons.
You can also configure the time of the DHCP lease (how long a workstation will keep an address without renewing it) and more informtion the DHCP will give out to clients, like Gateways, DNS servers, etc
Also the workstations need to be configured to received IP address automatically.
I hope it helps.. A+, MCP, CCNA
