Users folder doesn't always get mapped 1

I have a 2003 AD domain with a mix of 98 & XP workstations. In the login script I map U: to \\server\users\username. Also in AD Users & Computers I set the home folder to U: \\server\users\username. Usually things work & U: gets mapped when the users login. The 98se workstations, so far, have the U: mapped all the time. The XP workstations are kind of a hit & miss. Sometimes U: gets mapped, sometimes it doesn't. If they login and U: isn't there, the user can restart the computer & U: *might* be there.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

See the last paragraph of my FAQ: faq779-4017

I also for XP clients start all logon scripts with:

net use * /Delete
net use /Persistent:no

If I add the "net use * /delete" & "net use /persistent:no" in my logon script, will it have any adverse effects on non-XP workstations (ie, Win98se)??

Thanks for you help!

There are some differences between the versions of NET USE for Windows 98/98se/Me and Windows 2000/XP. For one thing the messages it outputs are slightly different between the two Windows families. (I know because I programmatically supress the success messages for errors and they are slightly different between the two families.)

* /DELETE ... this command is the same.

/PERSISTENT:NO ... this command is not recognized in WinMe, so it should be missing in Win98/98se too.
