In C:\Windows\Debug\, usermode folder is missing. I'm local administrator right now on a machine joined to the Windows 2000 domain, and I see the following files:

Netlogon.log - 0 bytes
oakley.log - 0 bytes
passwd.log - 0 bytes
Netsetup.log - 32 kb
oakley.log.sav - 0 bytes

Hide hidden files and hide protected system files are both unchecked on the Windows XP SP1 client from a reghosted machine (image is circa Dec. 2003). Any ideas on how (or if) this can be fixed before I go rebuilding the whole thing?

At the command prompt, try:

SFC /SCANNOW

Be ready to have the OS cd ready.

Doh, forgot about that one. Thanks. :) I'll give that one a try on one of the other pc's in the lab. I'm rebuilding this one from the cd.

In normal instances under XP, that folder is completely empty and of no purpose.

I discovered it while trying to follow a Microsoft KB article about a problem I'm having, so a complete reformat did indeed bring that folder back along with userenv.log which is what I was looking for. However the problem I was originally having is still not fixed, so off I go on that adventure again. Thanks. :)

Your workstation is throwing an exception. If you have any other details we can help.

But, to repeat,

"In normal instances under XP, that folder is completely empty and of no purpose."

I have always seen userenv.log, even right after a clean install, so I do not believe this is the case. At any rate, is what I'm getting, but that article doesn't seem to quite apply to me. Almost, but not quite.
