user unknown - connecting to Netware server

I have an Windows 200 SQL server and the Netware 5.0 server. Normally when I log on to the 2000 SQL server, it automatically connects me to the Netware server. I had IPX and Gateway Service for netware installed. Now I cannot connect to the Netware server anymore - "unknown username or password " is the error.

I backup the SQL server from the Novell server, and that logon does not work anymore either.

The problem ocurred right after rebooting the SQL server. I can't imagine what I changed to cause this. But they do not authenticate to each other any more - although they can ping each other and see each other listed as servers.

Any ideas ?

If you are using Gateway Services for NetWare then there is also an AD involved.
The two directories (AD and NDS) have to use a way to communicate each other.
GSNW allows you to use only a sngle account to connect to the NetWare. So, from NetWare point of view it will be just a user that is accessing its services.
Also IPX is required! So, your W2k server and your NetWare have to run IPX compatible protocol.
Check connectivity between servers (not with PING) via IPX.
Check the user used for gateway service. Is it able to authenticate with your NetWare server?
And as an advice, try to use Client Services for NetWare. It will allow you to have mappings "user AD" -"user NetWare".

Btw,
Do you intend to have a migration to Win2k network?
If not, I advise you to set your NW5 server just to IP (if there are no other applications that require IPX). Keeping both protocols is not a good idea.
And also, trust the Novell NetWare client. Has many improvements, very flexible, and built for this.
Indeed the idea of single sign on can send you to the solution what you were trying to do.
