Can anyone help with this one?

I have a small network 4 PC's most running win2k pro.
Fido ( yes he didn't get drowned in the canal) cedric, dora, and tarquin (win xp pro)

When I browse files from cedric to dora, I have to enter dora's user id and pwd before I can proceed.

If I browse cedric from dora, I need to do the same.

fido user, and cedric user = Administrator,
dora user = user (not admin status)

My question is simple, how do I set them up (networked pcs) so that when I browse any file from - to any pc, I do not have to enter a user id and pwd of that users pc?

I could map a drive and use a pwd for every signon( I think) but is there another way?
Thanks in advance.

Quite simply, you will need an identical username and password on each PC with appropriate rights on that PC for seamless browsing, unless you have a machine running a server version of Windows configured as a domain controller, which you could then join these PC's too.

Thanks John, Unfortunately I don't have a server machine. Is there no other way of doing this than having all the same user id's & pwds? Cheers. rbp

No, because in a workgroup environment, each machine authenticates against its own security database. With a domain, a windows server running as a domain controller can handle the requests for all pc's and users in the domain.

Thanks for that John. Better buy a server!
