I require an account for the helpdesk personnel to check the backups without giving them full administrative rights. I therefore placed the helpdesk account in the backup operators group however upon attempting to open backup exec I receive the following error:

“You have insufficient rights to run Backupexec. You must either be either a backup operator or Administrator to run Backupexec.”

Thus far the only way to gain access to Backupexec is to be a member of the Administrators group.

Ideas?

Check the rights on the helpdesk account. I forget the exact way it works, but I think if you deny access to the helpdesk account but add them to backup operators role, they still can't access it (because of the deny to the original role).

SQLBill, what do you mean deny access to the helpdesk account? I am having the same problem with backup exec 8.6. I have a user account that logs into the server, then opens backup exec; backup exec services all run as a different account. I also use another account to remote into the server and I can do everything just fine. The backup account is in the group Backup Operators. We have other servers in our network that use the same thing and they work just fine. Have any ideas?

mrpeashop said "...I therefore placed the helpdesk account ...". That's the helpdesk account I was discussing.

So what problem are you having? You aren't very clear about it.

BTW-for future knowledge, this thread is over 2 years old. You should have started a new thread. Also, it's poor etiquette to 'tack' your problem onto someone else's thread. What you should have done, was to start a new thread and include a link to this one. How do you include a link? Like this: "My problem is similar to the one in THREAD481-356767, but the solution didn't help me." The link is made up of the word Thread (upper or lowercase doesn't matter), the forum number (481 in this case) and the thread number 35676. You can find this information at the header of each thread. Why should you do this? Well, with your post and every one after it the original poster (mrpeashop) is getting an email saying he's received a response to his thread.
