User receives multiple copies of an e-mail

Hi all,

I have a problem with a user who is receiving some messages as many as 6 times. We are using Exchange 2003/Outlook 2003. What I would like to know is if this is a problem on our end or the sender's end?

When I checked the Exchange Message Tracking logs I see that the e-mail did come 6 times. Also, this user has had this happen with another person who tried sending her e-mail. This is the only user in my company however that I am aware of that has this problem though.

Any suggestions on how to figure out if this is our problems or the senders?

Does the user just have a MAPI/Exchange account configured in her mail profile, or is there also a POP account?

Try disabling the Antivirus on the workstation and having another email sent from the same sender. If this is a critical problem, try temporarily disabling AV on the server for the same test. Try disabling the compliance mail-archiving app on the server (if you have one running) and trying the test again.

Usually this problem is related to a 3rd party app installed on the server. Sometimes it's the mail gateway, if you are running some sort of mail appliance out in front of your Exchange server.
