user profile cannot delete

In createing a user and removing them three times I now have two extra copies of that users profile on the disk. I am able to take permission of them yet it keeps telling me the files might be in use so access is denied when i try to delete them. I know they are not being used. does anyone know a way to delete them?

never mind i figured it out. I have to allow the ownership to propagate to all child objects

If you are logged in under the profile you are trying to delete you will be unable to delete it. Log in as the default Administrator. You should then be able to delete any other profiles.
