I'm told that after a report has run a user should be able to insert notes and that these can be stored somehow and somewhere.

This very vague description hasn't helped me much in researching this facility. Can anyone help me on my way? It's said to be fairly new to CR 10 or 11

Cheers

What kind of notes? For what purpose? You can always write notes in file->summary info->comments. These can be retrieved in a separate report or displayed by adding the special field "report comments" to the report header.

I got the idea that this was for users.
So they run the report, look at the data and have some kind of field to enter some notes such as: 'this was a great year, take special note of xyz'.

I was unaware of such function, perhaps it rings a bell somewhere?

With a Crystal report, this can be done only by creating or purchasing a User Function Library (UFL) to invoke an input dialog and save the input to the database. At least 1 of the UFLs listed at can do this.
