Why can't I use the %username% variable in the user profile path when setting up a roaming profile?

Right now we are converting our 200 plus users to roaming profiles. Currently, I create the folder where the profile will reside on the server, then change the profile settings in User Manager for Domains but it would be really nice to use a variable instead of pasting the basic info into the box and then editing it...

Anyone have any hints how to make this process go faster?
