Why does AD not allow you to modify a user account by changing it back to its original state after modifying it? For example:

joe.schmoe@killer.com (original)
joe.schmoe1@killer.com (changed by adding 1)

I want to change it back to joe.schmoe but AD keeps saying that name has already been used.

Is there a way of being able to reuse the userID after modifying the logon?

Thanks...

How long are you waiting before making the changes. AD must replicate and even with a single server, the changes are not always immediate. This is particularly true if Exchange is involved.

I would wait at least an hour or two before that kind of update (change, then change back).
