A few users are receiving hundreds of unwanted mail from root. The mail messages are identical in content and appear to have the same date and time stamp as though a cron is running. The question is how can I stop these messages from root? I don't want to disable normal messages, just the ones from root.

Here is a typical message:

**** From: rdean Date: 02/16/ 4 Time: 10:08 ****
³
³From: Superuser <root@news.rppr.com>
³X-Mailer: SCO OpenServer Mail Release 5.0

³Subject: Welcome to news

³Welcome to SCO OpenServer!
³
³Your login shell is Bourne shell; please contact the
³system Accounts Administrator if you wish this changed.

It's unfortunate for me and the clients that I have been the task of supporting these SCO systems. My knowledge is limited. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

that is the standard new user welcome message. did you add users thru a script of some kind?
