I set up a user ID set up on a PC (user x). The user was deleted and another was created. However, the login screen always defualts to user x even though he's been removed from Local Users and Groups. Not a major problem I know but it's for a client whose extremely picky so any help is much appreciated...

Did you actually delete the user's profile from the machine?

Eventually if you login enough using a differnet name (Non-Administrator) Windows 2000 will keep that name in the login screen. Otherwise it will default to the laat local Admin that logged in. I do not think there is a setting in the regstry for this. Anyone have any ideas? James Collins

Guidos, I used the Computer Management, Local Users & Groups, Users window and deleted the user from there.

Butchrecon, The user has had the PC for 2 months now (logging in daily) but it still has the original Username...

Do they have standard user rights or local Admin? James Collins

He's a standard user with no additional rights.

What about the user before? The name that comes up all the time, Admin? James Collins

All that aside you can do it 1 of 2 ways.

1)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Currentversion\policies\System
"dontdisplaylastusername" set it to 1.
this will leave a blank logon box.

2)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Currentversion\Winlogon
"altdefaultusername" change to whom you want
"defaultusername" change to whom you want.

Hope this solves your problem
