Hi,

I am experiencing a very perplexing problem. I have a network running with two Windows 2000 Domain Controllers and most of my client PCs running Windows XP SP2. I also have a file server running Win 2000 which stores all user documents.

In Active Directory all user profiles are configured to map Z: to the user home directory \\servername\Users\username on the file server.

However very often when we replace a user's PC with a new PC for several weeks afterwards when the user logs in Z: gets mapped to \\servername\Users, instead of \\servername\User\username. The user must then log out and log back in to rectify the situation. The next day the problem is likely to occur again. Usually after a few weeks that particular user will stop having that problem without any intervention from our part.

This is increasing becoming more of an annoyance. Our network uses almost exclusive Dell computer equipment, both for servers and client PCs. And this problem only seems to happen to when a users PC is replaced with a new PC.

I can't think of anything that would cause this and would appreciate any assistance in this matter.

Thanks.

Is there anything in the Event Viewer on the local PC, the DC or the file server around the time that the user logs in that may give a hint?
