Does anyone know of places I can look to find out statistics about what computer hardware & operating systems the general public is using? I'm in the early stages of a project and we're trying to determine what level we can design for to reach the greatest audience while still delivering an exciting multimedia experience. What I would love would be a site that gets regularly updated that says something along the lines of 38% of users are using 1Ghz or higher, 30% are 500-950 Mhz and 32% are under 500Mhz--or whatever the actual numbers are. I'd love to have statistics on a wide range of info including processor, RAM, Operating System, optical drives, and even more software stuff like browser, media player, Acrobat and Office usage statistics.

thanks,
steve

For a question like this, I would have started with a Google for site stats. There are a number of sites who publish stats of hits analysed as you need.

I've never seen stats for hardware -- just the info that can be reported by a browser -- browser version, OS version, screen resolution, etc.
