User Busy status, without a button.

I have a customer who would like to be able to know if a extension they are calling is on the phone, when they call that extension. I've suggested sending the call straight to voicemail when the user is busy, but they do not like that idea. (They would like to still have call waiting to answer a call if they need to.) This location has a couple of hundred phones, so DSS consoles are not practical. Any ideas on how I can make that happen?

TL;DR Need to be able to see a users status, without a button for that user.

This has been asked for time and again, Avaya either can't or can't be bothered to do it .....because it's been years now :)

Sure you can. I set it up for a customer on Friday.
Give them two call appearance keys on the handset only. Turn off voicemail. Turn off Call forward busy/no answer. Turn off twinning.
In user>telephony>multiline options
tick reserve last CA key.
Now they're engaged on busy but can still transfer calls or make a second call.

Caller can use callback softkey to request call back when handset becomes idle.

Otherwise use Softconsole or OneX

 
He wants to be able to transfer to it anyway, you can't do that with busy tone :)

 
You can but you need to transfer to a short code.

You can camp it on the extn, but I am fairly certain it never bounces back, it'll work if you don't mind that and the extra step :)
