One of the users on our domain has a strange problem, When this user shuts down (not just logging off but shutdown) they will startup and log in the next day and the domain recognizes their account but the local account is reset and they have new account setting under a different user: the original account is [user.domain] and then it changes to user.domain.000 and all the settings are missing.this happens usually when a shutdown is performed. I then copy settings such as desktop and shortcuts but i have to run the network ID wizard to have the new account setting permissions updated to the old account settings. Is this a local problem or maybe a domain problem?

Thanks if anyone can help.

It sounds like a shutdown problem. Are you sure Service Pack 1 is installed?

robd2 - sounds like a local profile issue. I just to make certain: are you using roaming profiles? If so, the roaming profile needs to be rebuilt. If not, then try to rebuild the local profile. Log onto the machine as ADMIN, then rename all the profiles to "PROFILE.domain-old", "PROFILE.domain.000-old etc....
Reboot the machine and have the user log in again.

hope that helps

Make sure they have full permissions to their user profile directory. I remember reading about this on MS Knowledgebase but I can't seem to find the article.
