This happens with multiple mdb files in different shared directories. It happens with different groups of users. All users being focused on have full permissions.

The Problem:
If user 1 has the file open. user 2 double clicks, gets an hour glass for a second or two then it just acts like you did nothing. If user 1 closes the file, then user 2 opens it, then user 1 can double click & reopen the database without any troubles.

The two users that I really focused on are both running access 2003 with all updates applied (checked version..it matches exactly)

The Work Around:
User 2 opens MS Access & then opens the mdb file from the file menu instead of double clicking on the file or a shortcut to it. It opens just fine.

Does anybody know what causes this or how to fix this?

Thanks,
Don

By The Way...Nobody is opening in exclusive mode. That is not a factor.

Yeah, I have seen this problem before when you are sharing and MDB on a Linux based NAS, or Linux machine.

Is this the case?

yes all parties have full permissions on the database i'm focusing on....

on the other file I'm having troubles with (in another directory on the same server), everyone has full permissions to the directory but some people only have read permissions on the file. (this way that can create the lock table but not change the data) The problem affects both types of user (full & read only)
