Use of Directdraw control in VB.Net

Good evening. I have several VB6 programs which use the Direct Draw control method for displaying graphics.

When I try to convert these into Visual Basic 2008 programs I encounter dozens of errors which can only
be removed by commenting out any line which refers to Direct Draw. I realise one alternative is to revert
to using PictureBox graphical methods but is there another way in which Direct Draw can be kept ?
